History Issues About Us

The Elmwood

Past history: On July 10,  2007, the City Council turned down our appeal of Berkeley ZAB's approval of the Gordon Commercial project.   The voting on the Council was actually in our favor, by a vote of 4 to 2 with one abstention and  two council persons having recused themselves.  But we needed 5 votes (i.e. a majority of the 9 Council members) to win the appeal.

We are not giving up on this issue that is so important to the well-being of the neighborhood.

Some background: The City Council At its March 8 meeting, the Berkeley Zoning Adjustments Board approved the Gordon Commercial proposal.  To read this appeal, click here: Appeal.

The "Save the Elmwood" petition can be signed on line.  Visit Issues to learn more about the petition.

The Elmwood Neighborhood Association is meeting regularly and reflecting on our path forward.   The ZAB decision was clearly illegal, violating the California Environmental Quality Act, as well as the Board's own regulations.  We are preparing to file a lawsuit.

Please contact us if you have any suggestions or questions, or if you would like to contribute to the lawsuit:
